Benefits of a Soft Water

September 13, 2021

Last month we spoke about how a water softener produces soft water. Today’s article would like to touch on the multiple benefits of having soft water in your home. The main difference between hard water and soft water is the mineral content they each have. It might seem like an arbitrary term, but the difference between hard and soft water can profoundly impact your daily life.

Protecting your home’s plumbing with soft water

Increased lifespan of your homes water lines

For a lot of us, our home is our most significant investment. The last thing we need is having to replace the water pipes in our home. The main problem here is the mineral content of hard water can build up through time, clogging up the water lines in our home. It can get so bad that even the water pressure can decrease to the point that the only remedy is to replace the affected pipes. Depending on their location, this can be a very costly affair. Having better quality water can significantly extend the lifespan of your home’s water lines.

Reduced Maintenance Costs

How often do you have to deal with clogged pipes or toilets? Do you experience overflow issues? Calcium and Magnesium buildup (scale) can be the leading cause of these issues. Softening your water helps you avoid this harmful buildup.

Extend the useful life of your home’s Appliances

Three major appliances work with water in our homes. That would be our water heater, our washing machine, and our dishwasher. Just like our pipes, they are also susceptible to scale buildup that can detrimentally affect their functionality and, more importantly, their useful lifespan. Soft water allows these appliances to work more effectively and reduces the need to have them replaced.

More Efficient Cleaning

The essential ingredient in most home cleaning endeavors is water. It only stands to reason that the fewer impurities this water has, the more effective it will be for cleaning. Hard water can render cleaning supplies ineffective. But soft water benefits go beyond it being a more pure form of water. Hard water can encourage the creation of soap curd, also known as soap scum, that can stain the surfaces you intend to clean. At the same time, hard water requires more cleaning products to achieve the desired clean result.

Soft water, on the other hand, is much better suited to producing a lather from soap. This lather makes it more effective at cleaning and rinsing. You can enjoy more efficient cleaning and a cheaper process as your products stretch further by using soft water.

It is worth mentioning that with soft water, your bathroom and kitchen fixtures will keep their new look much longer since scale water stains are no longer present, especially to anybody moving to a brand new home. So it is not only easier to clean them, but surfaces are less prone to permanent staining that can render them unsightly and damage their original shiny finishes.

Softer Skin and Hair using soft water

One more problem hard water brings is the drying out of your skin and hair when we shower. Washing with hard water can leave your skin dry and scratchy while damaging your hair by making it look lifeless and brittle. While you may not notice this immediately, the continued use of hard water will bring these bad results. The good news is that soft water can reverse these effects, returning your skin to a softer, healthier state and your hair feeling silkier and lustrous.

Beneficial Environmental Impact

One more benefit of soft water is that it heats up much more rapidly than hard water. This aspect, in turn, can lower the time and energy needed to heat it. The result is reducing the greenhouse footprint your home emits. So not only will all your hot water appliances work much more efficiently, but they will last longer.

Soft Water Save Money

With all the benefits priorly mentioned, soft water can have a beneficial quantifiable impact on your wallet. If you use less energy to heat it and require fewer supplies to clean your home, this can really impact your monthly budget.
